Weekly Email # 95 - Memorial Weekend

Well, I did tell you that I would email more this week.. but.. I'll have to postpone a longer email another week. Haha

Some of the many memories this week that were made were continuing to work in what several members have told me is, "The most dangerous city in Columbus." Don't worry mom, I haven't gotten mugged or beaten up yet. The missionary reputation around here has actually kept us pretty safe, but its always interesting to see the gangs and the different groups come out towards the latter part of the day.

During church this Sunday, I got to meet President Stamas, who is the father of my soon to be cousin in law! (I'm not sure if that's correct terminology.... but lets go with it :) ) His daughter is marrying my cousin, Matt! Absolutely crazy! I introduced myself to him after Sacrament Meeting and it was one of the funniest exchanges ever! Haha he sounded excited to go down to Utah this weekend for the wedding! Don't worry Matt, I will be the best man in your heart!

We also got to teach Gospel Principles this week and loads of other lessons to several different people. Life is good! No one with a definite baptismal date yet, but the weeks look promising.

Again, sorry, wish this could be longer. I have LOADS more to tell you. Love you ALL! Have a great week!

Weekly Email # 94 - Maybe Last Area/Maybe Last Comp/Maybe Losing My Marbles

Oh and the zoo! Haha the subject was way to long, so yeah.

Hey ya'll! Today, we went to the Columbus Zoo with the Johnston family and it was super fun! The zoo is a big deal around here, since you can only go once or twice, and I was fortunate enough to get transferred to an area with a family that wanted to take us there!

Oh wait, I got transferred, huh? Yep! Reynoldsburg, Ohio is now my 6th and maybe last area! We are technically known as the Bexley/Whitehall Elders and we serve in one of the ghettos of Columbus! I've loved my time so far in the ghettos so I am excited to maybe end the mission here!

After spending almost a year and a half in the East Stake, I am back down in the South Stake. Man, talk about FOREVER AGO! The good ol' Canal days! I am with my 12th companion and his name is Elder Humphries, who is from Enterprise, Utah! (Somewhere down south :) ) This is a full time car area and I am the designated driver! Driving a 2014 Red Corolla 🤤🤤. Technically, its an "older" missionary car, but I love it! The Corolla's are my favorite cars in the mission and the area that we cover has a lot of one way streets and more crazy Columbus drivers! Haha and the area is CHOCK FULL of people to teach! I am super pumped for these next few weeks!

Wish I could tell you more details, but most of our p-day has been deleted away because of the Columbus Zoo. I will send plenty of pics next week, but I'll leave you with a couple! Love you all! Have a great week!

Weekly Email # 93 - Post Mother's Day Trunkiness / Take The Initiative and Muster Up Courage

Long time, no see!

It's been a LONG but surprisingly great week! I won't do a day by day analysis, but I'll key you in to a few of the lopsided things going on.

The beginning of the week started with us dropping quite a few people due to their non-progressing status. I was hesitant to do it, but this ended up helping us focus on finding more new investigators for the nine day week that was ahead of us.

We had a couple lessons each with the solid investigators we are working with. Jeff is doing well, we just have been struggling with getting him to church still. Patrick and Kari both texted us telling us that they would both be at church! We also tried finding more people through contacting at the Hoover Dam again and biking to different parts of our area that haven't been worked in a while!

I also went on exchanges with Elder Thompson in his area, which included 16 miles of biking! For lunch we also went to a Taco 🌮 Truck! First one in the mission that I have gone to and it was delicious! I had corn on a stick and REAL tacos! Haha it was prime! Don't worry, this email will include several pics.

Patrick came to church again! Kari didn't because she wasn't feeling well again, but Patrick said he enjoyed the services! But afterwards, he pulled us aside and told us that neither he or Kari plan on converting. We just simply smiled and in my mind, I said, we'll see 😉😘

And now the news comes. I found out that after being in the New Albany Ward for 7 months with three different companions, I am getting transferred tomorrow! We'll see where I go tomorrow morning! I love this Ward. Any missionary is privileged to serve in this great Ward. I made a lot of great friends here, both members and non members. Thank you for the wonderful example and love you showed me here. Onto bigger and better things!

Love you all! Time to bombard you with pics! Talk to you on Monday! Gotta get packing!

Weekly Email # 92 - 130 + Multi-Stake Conference? Sure!

Hello, Yello!

Things have been going well! Super excited to Skype all you Galbraith peeps this Sunday, FOR THE LAST TIME! Wut? Crazy. Its going to be a great call 😃 Also, transfers are this coming week, which means the Great OCM and I will be having P-day/Email time next Wednesday! I've been in the New Albany Area for 7 months so it might be my time to skedaddle. We'll find out!

Well what have we been up to? Hm. The theme of retaining current investigators and finding new ones keep cycling through my mind. Our Zone put a focus on finding new investigators this week too, which helped us balance our schedule out with helping progressing investigators and getting in the doors of new ones!

Elder Evans and I got stuck in the ☔️ rain 💦 multiple times this week! Haha one time we had umbrellas and they worked... for the most part. And then the time we didn't have them was due to us thinking our weather apps were sufficient in knowledge.... haha so we got soaked!! It started hailing and we found ourselves under a tree on the sidewalk and this lady was calling us over to come join her in the garage! Apparently, she had been yelling at us to come over for like twoish minutes, but we couldn't hear her due to the insanely loud rain drops!

Haha well we happily run over to her garage and I was thinking, "Sweet! We are going to stand here and stay dry AND get this lady to be a new investigator! These stories don't just happen in PMG after all!" She was super nice and talked to us about what we do as missionaries and our beliefs for a little bit. And then literally 6 or 7ish minutes later, the rain ceased and she said, "Well its time for you guys to get running!" We tried saving the moment and teaching her the Gospel but she was very stuck in her church and that there is no point in teaching her 😭😭🤔 Oh well, makes for a good story! I can totally see her accepting the Gospel in the future.

We did more mulching with Patrick and Kari this past Wednesday which was great! They are so awesome. After getting all the mulching done in Flash fashion 😉, we thought we were done. All the sudden, Patrick comes out with..... what? STEAKS!!! hahaha he surprised us so we had steak potato dinner which was awesome! With the time crunch they were on, we weren't able to teach a full lesson, but they wanted to come to church!

Let's talk about church! This past Sunday, we had a Multi Stake Conference broadcasted from Salt Lake that included Stakes from Eastern Canada and most of the East Coast of the United States. Multiple General Authorities, including Elder Dallin H Oaks, spoke over the "pulpit" and delivered inspiring messages, which I really liked! I took a lot notes, it felt like a post mini General Conference. Our Stake building was filled with both New Albany Wards and it totally reminded me of my Ward back at home!

But the bad news had to come eventually. Kari and Patrick weren't able to make it and neither was our wheelchair investigator, Jeff. Jeff was unable to get his health aids to help him out with a ride and our Ward, unfortunately wasn't able to provide a ride. Kari and Patrick couldn't make it because they forgot about Kari's son graduating at the EXACT same time as the Stake Broadcast. Craziness. We'll get them there!

Have a great week! Thanks for being studs! Love your emails and letters!

Weekly Email # 91! - Praise Jesus!

What's up! Things have been steadily improving in New Albany 2A! Sharing time, commence!

Monday and Tuesday kinda blended together. Monday night after p-day, we worked around the area, not being able to see too many people. On Tuesday, we went to the Metro Gardens park to contact some people. On a blazing hot spring day, there were fewer people than we were anticipating. Then we came back, had dinner at the apartment and went to Book of Mormon Discussion Night, which went well! Elder Evans and I facilitated the discussion and was a good meeting!

Wednesday was another crazy hot day! We did more contacting by the dam, tried seeing a couple of less actives. We then went to help Patrick, an investigator of ours, pour A LOT of mulch! He was super thankful for our help and without us even extending an invitation, he said, "I want to check out your church!" Haha we want you to check out our church too! He dropped us back off at home, bought us smoothies, (because we politely declined coffee and whatever else Tim Horton's offers haha!) and dropped us off! Patrick is awesome! We later tried to plan a chapel tour with him, but he wasn't able to do that. But it was still a great way to end the day!

Thursday and Friday were good days! Well kinda. After we had a lesson with a less active, Brother Godwin, we went walking around and got DRENCHED by a storm that lasted approximately 5 minutes! We brought umbrellas and felt prepared, but the rain was coming down HORIZONTALLY. Haha so the umbrellas did not retain any value. We then had dinner with the Spooners (Brother Spooner gave me a SUPER fat 80's tie. Haha totally going to skinny it, though.) Then had a super dope Ward Coordination! We did it Brother Peterson! We got stuff done! I was super proud! Friday was full of weekly planning shenanigans, helping the Smiths prepare homemade Cane's, which was SUPER delicious, and having a lesson with Eamon, a less active. Eamon has been doing awesome recently. Coming to church regularly, reading the scriptures, keeping commitments, it's been great!

Saturday we did more contacting, like knocking Potentials, street contacting, going through our LONG list of formers, all that good stuff. A couple lessons fell through that day, and it was honestly a slower day. A couple of funny contacts too that were good for the journal! Haha oh and I forgot to mention. On Thursday night, we got a knock at the door around 9:20ish. It was a member named Brother Flandro, who is actually visiting from Mississippi! Haha he told us he saw the Jesus picture on our front door and knew we were missionaries 😂😂 He wanted to do missionary work with us until he has to leave this coming Thursday! Haha so he has been a great help!

The Sabbath was the highlight of the week! Eamon picked us and Brother Flandro up to go to church and like he promised, Patrick came to church! He sat by his member friends, the Davis' and he said he enjoyed fast and testimony meeting! I bore my testimony too, which I was kinda planning on doing if Patrick came to church. Basically, the Spirit kept telling me, "Hey, you said you would bear your testimony. Now go do it." And I went up after receiving a few.... nudges. Neat experience. We then as a Ward Mission, taught the third hour of church, and pushed everyone to strive to do more missionary work. I facilitated around a 10 minute discussion which was actually more fun than it was nerve wracking! There was a powerful spirit there as three of the six of us missionaries did trainings, then Brother Peterson, then Bishop. It was some good stuff!

We get home, do our studies and go have a lesson with Jeff, our wheel chair pal! He really wants to come to church, but transportation makes it super difficult, so we are going to try and help him as best as we can. After him we tried seeing a couple more people, then had dinner. After dinner we tried contacting a "new" investigator named Justin, who Elder Reynolds, my former comp, contacted on exchanges. We went to visit the address and no one was home. So we continued to walk up the street and we see a woman sitting outside her apartment door looking all sad and smoking a cigarette and I felt prompted to go talk to her. So as we contact her, we find out that her name is Destiny, who is a friend of Justin, who is also in our records! Elder Reynolds, you know I think you're cool, but YOU DONE MESSED UP! 😘😘 Haha we had their incorrect address and were knocking on the wrong door for 3 months now! 😐😐😐 She's super interested and wants to come to church with her 13 year old daughter! We got a return appointment for later tonight!

That's it for me! Gotta do 3 essays for school today so if I am terrible at writing back today, that is why. Love you all, thanks for being awesome! The work is moving along!
